Back on East Coast at last (Townsville)

After 5000 odd km of outback we finally struggled back to the East Coast and headed straight to the nearest garage as the gearbox had been acting up since before we reached Uluru. As usual we arrived in town towards the end of the week so the van couldn't be looked at until the Monday. The problem seemed to be with an electronic part of the gearbox and required a part to be sent up from Sydney so we were caught up in Townsville for a full week. We spent our time shacked up outside the garage as the van was undriveable thanks to the lazy mechanic not connecting the gearbox back up as he waited on the part and claimed he forgot we told him that we were living in the van.

We past our time here by updating this very time consuming blog and having to switch between the city centre Mcd's, which provided free wifi, and the library that provided free electricity to charge the laptop. We found the city centre very entertaining as there was a routine which went as follows: bible basher preaching to the uninterested (e.g. us) about God, random homeless woman wandering around talking to herself and another random guy who liked to discuss his opinions about politics at the top of his voice. Needless to say we were glad to leave this place when the van was fixed and it was time to move South. Stay tuned for updates.
