Tully

After meeting up with Ian and Amy last night at the rest stop we started to discuss our plans for what we wanted to see and do. We were still sure we wanted to head further South to Townsville and head across to the outback but thought that we would check out some of the things to do here first. There was a couple of nice waterfalls and swimming holes in the area and the four of us headed for Murray falls in the morning. Again these falls were pretty good considering it was dry season. After having a look at the falls we headed down to the swimming hole to test the water. Ian dived straight in and was followed by Amy. The water was absolutely freezing and Gemma and I thought about leaving it before diving in to the water. The water was cold but it was so refreshing and clean. It was also very clear and you could look down and see loads of fish swimming around you. It was such a great little place and when you stopped to take a look around you couldn't help but be amazed at the location we were in, swimming away without a care in the world.(Although after we got out we did see the sign warning us that pythons inhabit the area!) There was also plenty of mini waterfalls that acted as big slides for us to slide down into the water, you just had to make sure you didn't hit any rocks on the way down! You could also take a swim down the river a bit which we also did.

After here we went to Tully Heads which is another beach on the East coast. Again this beach was deserted and we had it all to ourselves. After spending a bit of time soaking up the sun we decided that we wanted to have another bbq and we headed to get some supplies for that.

That night we went back to the same rest stop and discovered that the bbq's there were different to the ones in Cairns. These were proper bbq's and we would need to create our own fire. As we didn't have any charcoal Ian took great delight in setting about making a real fire with the firewood he had been collecting. This was our first decent bbq of the trip as we had bought a good selection of meat to throw on the fire and Gemma made amazing steaks. After dinner Gemma also brought out a pack of marshmallows that she had been saving, however they tasted like cheap perfume and no-one really liked them so I got to eat them all!
