So the story so far is that we had to waste a couple of weeks in Cairns waiting around while we set up all the boring stuff like bank accounts and a tax file number for when we need to work. While we were doing that we had some time to give the van a good clean and we spent a couple of days cleaning it and giving it a respray.Heres some pics of the new look van:

The van hasn't been all good though as we discovered after a few days that we had an oil leak which we had to get fixed. Cairns also doesn't allow people to camp in their vans and on our 5th & 6th nights we picked up a couple of notices left on our windscreen telling us that we could be fined £2000 or have our van towed away. After that we had to move outwith the centre and found a wee street in an industrial estate where we stayed for the next week. This was also good for us as Cairns is full of bats and we were having to park under bat trees each day and would wake up with our van covered.

Whilst parking here we met up with a couple of Scots (Ian & Amy) from Fife and a couple from Dublin (Alan & Siobhan) who were on our plane from Singapore who we hung about with whilst in Cairns.
Thanks to everyone who sent emails and texts on my birthday (I assume the presents are still in the mail). The night before my birthday we had our first taste of goon (also known as backpackers champagne!), which is Australian cheap wine. you can buy a box of wine for about £7.50 and we sat and had a laugh with Ian, Amy, Alan and Siobhan. It was a pretty decent night and in the morning Ian and Alan had put a big happy birthday banner on the front of our van. On my birthday the day was pretty boring chasing around banks and heading to Qantas to change all our flights. Night time was good however when Gemma treated me to a massive steak dinner, then the pictures, before we went to the pub to meet up with the other guys for a while.
